Qualification: Qualified to degree level or equivalent, in a construction related discipline / Registered as a Class 3 G-H Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator.
Professional Registration Body Membership: professional membership of a building control related organisation - Chartered Assoc of Building Engineers (MCABE), Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), or equivalent.
Essential Car Documentation: This post is a designated Essential Car User. Therefore, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work. You will receive the Essential Car User Allowance.
The Building Control Service in Manchester has a key role to play in the evolution of our city, ensuring our developments are compliant, safe, inclusive, sustainable and incorporate measures that reduce the impact of climate change.
Essential Requirements For The Role:
* Qualified to degree level or equivalent, in a related discipline and holds professional membership of a building control related organisation - Chartered Assoc of Building Engineers (MCABE), Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), Chartered Engineer (CEng), Institute of Structural Engineers (MIStructE) or equivalent.
* Be registered with the Building Safety Regulator as a Class 3 G - H Building Inspector.
* Must possess relevant building control related knowledge and be able to demonstrate experience acquired, whilst working in a Local Authority or Registered Building Control Approver organisation.
* A full UK driving licence is required.
* Communication Skills: Ability to build and maintain strong networks of support both internally and externally and to forge effective partnerships with external agencies, voluntary and statutory, and key stakeholders for the continuous improvement of services.
* Analytical Skills: Skills to analyse a wide range of data and other sources of information to break them down into components parts, patterns and relationships.
* Planning and Organising: Ability to maintain focus and objectivity under various conditions and skill in managing and maintaining a multi-priority workload.
* Problem Solving and Decision Making: Ability to react to immediate problems of a highly complex nature with associated risk factors and deliver pragmatic solutions sometimes under extreme pressure.
* Creative Skills: Uses creative ability to find solutions while considering policy and procedure.
* Financial Management: Strategic awareness of the financial structure of the Council and the implications of decisions on the delivery of value for money for tax payers.
* People Management: Effective development, management and motivation of staff within service area, providing leadership and planning for the work of a service based function or Council wide team.
