Technical Leader Environment and Sustainability – Water Resources Planning

Join Mott MacDonald as a Technical Leader Environment and Sustainability – Water Resources Planning in the UK. This role offers the chance to shape industry‑leading approaches to water resource planning and environmental assessment, tackling complex challenges for top‑tier clients.


Overview

The role is part of the Environmental & Sustainability Services (ESS) team, supporting the AMP8 delivery. You will provide strategic and technical leadership and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver SEA, HRA, Natural Capital and BNG assessments for water planning projects.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

* Drive the strategic direction of environmental assessment for the AMP8 water resource portfolio
* Provide strategic leadership to deliver SEA, HRA, Natural Capital and BNG assessments for water planning projects
* Innovate and influence sustainable outcomes at project and programme levels
* Engage strategically with clients and stakeholders from public and private sectors
* Lead business development and work‑winning activities to grow the business


Candidate Specification

Essential

* Strategic leadership and business development experience
* Substantial experience in strategic water planning (water resource plans, drought plans, drainage and wastewater management plans)
* Understanding of policy and regulatory landscape in water resource planning and environmental assessment
* Bachelor’s degree in a related technical subject
* Experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver high‑standard environmental deliverables
* Client‑facing experience with stakeholder influence
* Strong planning, management and budget control skills
* Creative problem‑solving and continuous improvement mindset

Desirable

* Leading environmental assessments in the water sector or other sectors
* Strong network within the water sector
* Master’s degree in a relevant subject
* Professional chartered status (e.g., CIWEM, ISEP) or equivalent
