About IT Services
IT Services at the University of Manchester is a vibrant and fast-moving department, we focus on delivering excellent customer service and quality services for our staff, students and researchers.
The Team
End-User Compute is a dynamic, collaborative and customer-oriented team, which delivers a diverse range of end-user compute (EUC) activities to empower University colleagues to achieve their goals without disruption.
Our work spans everything from strategic project planning to hands-on technical support, ensuring that every desktop, laptop, and PC cluster across campus is optimised, secure, and fit-for-purpose. We design and implement technical solutions that support teaching, research, and administration, and deploy, maintain, and decommission hardware and software across the University, ensuring installations are correct and systems are ready for use.
We respond to incidents and service requests, working to service level agreements to diagnose issues and restore functionality with minimal downtime, and provide in-depth support to a varied estate of Windows, Mac, and Linux devices.
We coordinate large-scale change projects, including seasonal refreshes and upgrades, with a focus on continuous improvement, and provide expert guidance and mentoring, fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence across the team.
Please note: This is a fully on-campus role; home/remote working is not available.
The Role
As a Technical Lead within the team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality IT support and driving continuous service improvement across the University. You will lead and manage multiple projects and services, and be required to work autonomously, whilst ensuring all service levels, quality standards, and security protocols are maintained.
While this role does not include line management responsibilities, you will act as a technical authority and mentor, supporting a team of IT technicians and collaborating with colleagues across IT Services to enhance service delivery, as well as communicating technology changes both inside and outside the University to the wider team.
The Person
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:
* Experience of supporting services and infrastructures related to end user compute services and technologies, as well as device management.
* Demonstrable experience of systems administration and configuration.
