Lead Education and Training Pharmacy Technician

Are you a qualified technician who who enjoys education and training? If so, apply to join our education and training team to support the development of the pharmacy workforce at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

This role will be based at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, however; there may be a requirement to work cross site at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to facilitate networking with peer practice supervisors or to deliver training.


Main duties of the job

Plan, deliver and develop staff training in dispensing practice to all staff working within the Pharmacy Dispensaries and Distribution areas. This includes but is not limited to Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Foundation Trainee Pharmacists, MPharm Undergraduate students,ไซต์ work experience students and others.

Lead in the planning, delivery of and supervision for pre-registration pharmacy technicians completing their operational training and be the point of contact for higher education institutes/colleges. The post holder will be the direct line manager for pre-registration pharmacy technicians.

Lead on the development of in-house training, be involved in regional education and training networks, and support the delivery of education and training objectives. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the on-going competency and quality assurance of technical staff working within the dispensary to ensure that the Trust meets the requirements for safe and comprehensive dispensing practice. This may include implementing learning within training from medicine safety incidents.

Fulfil an accuracy checking session on the rota to maintain practice, but all student/trainer time will be additional to rota requirements unless in exceptional staffing situations. The post holder may need to provide support to the dispensary leads in the co-ordination of day to day running of the dispensary service.

This role will be based at Alexandra Hospital (Redditch), however; there may be a requirement to work at Worcestershire Royal Hospital (Worcester).

09:00-17:00 3 days a week afsl 22.5 hours per week; including weekend working, late shifts and bank holidays.

Skills

* Proven ability to logits and error reduce medicines without making errors and to detect any errors that have been made by other staff.
* Strong technical and clinical skills including accuracy, calculations, medicines optimisation.
* Standard key‑board skills for using the Pharmacy Computer System, and other software, to prepare reports, analyses, label medicines, etc.
* Skilled at using Microsoft Office to produce education and training materials, SOPs, compile reports and plan work schedules.
* Ability to learn new technologies with minimum supervision.
* Able to demonstrate sound patient counselling and communication skills.
* Ability to communicate complex ideas or information to staff or patients.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, problem solving skills and leadership skills to be used in all aspects of training delivery.
* Ability to produce education and training materials such as (not limited to) teaching presentations, reports, and training trackers.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including giving constructive feedback to trainees.
* Line management and change management skills.


Experience

* Recent experience of delivering a pharmacy technical serviceदेश hospitals wards/dispensary.
* Prior experience of training all grades of pharmacy technical staff.
* Proven experience of supervising staff.
* The post‑holder brings experience of working within a team, demonstrates prioritising workload to meet service and training needs.
* Experience in providing training for non‑pharmacy staff, pharmacy undergraduate students, foundation pharmacists, post‑registration pharmacists.
* Experience representing a pharmacy or pharmacy team at Trust/regional meetings and forums, participating in analysis, or contributing ideas for improvement.


Knowledge

* Up to date knowledge on the NVQ Level 2 Dispensing Qualification requirements.
* Up to date knowledge of Health and Safety at Work including COSHH, Manual Handling, flags VDU usage.
* Up to date knowledge of Medicines Legislation including the Medicines Act, and Misuse of Drugs Act as they apply to pharmacy service SOPs and the legal requirements for dispensing and supplying medicines.
* Current knowledge of good human resource (personnel) practice.
* Current understanding of the issues facing pharmacy technical services within the NHS.
* Able toенд demonstrate understanding of Medicines Optimisation and current national medicines принять safety issues e.g. NPSA, MHRA safety alerts etc.
* Understanding of apprenticeships and how they can translate to Pharmacy roles.
* Understanding of new roles in Pharmacy, Nursing and AHPs and their current relationships with medicines supply and administration. Understanding of clinical governance and quality assurance in relation to education and training.

Qualifications

* NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Technician course or equivalent.
* Registered pharmacy technician with the GPhC.
* Accreditation as a Pharmacy* Technician.
* Meeting GPhC requirements for CPD.
* Additional training or qualifications related to education and training.
* Additional training or qualifications related to leadership or management skills.
