About The Role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Regional Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HS&W) Advisor to support our Regional Civils business operating within the Power, Transmission & Distribution sector. The role will be initially site‑based at Woolavington, Somerset, supporting civil engineering works in a power and utilities environment, before evolving into a regional position across multiple sites in the South as the programme develops.
You will work closely with project delivery teams, supply chain partners, and both internal and external clients, providing visible, pragmatic health, safety and wellbeing support that enables safe, efficient delivery of complex civil works. This includes an in‑house health and safety advisory and management service, advising and assisting southern contracts in meeting statutory safety and environmental responsibilities and promoting a culture of continual safety behavioural improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide professional HS&W advice and guidance across Regional Civils Power T&D projects
* Support the planning, implementation and assurance of safe systems of work, including RAMS, permits to work, temporary works and lifting operations
* Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers and Supervisors to integrate HS&W from pre‑construction through to delivery
* Build strong working relationships with clients, asset owners, DNOs and regulators, representing Balfour Beatty professionally
* Support and influence the supply chain, ensuring alignment with Balfour Beatty standards and expectations
* Carry out site inspections, tours, audits and assurance activities, tracking actions and driving continuous improvement
* Support incident reporting, investigation and learning, ensuring lessons are embedded regionally
* Promote health and wellbeing initiatives, including occupational health, mental wellbeing and behavioural safety
* Contribute to regional HS&W objectives, data reporting and improvement plans
Who We’re Looking For
You will be a hands‑on, engaging HS&W professional with experience in civil or infrastructure environments, comfortable operating both site‑based and regionally.
Essential Qualifications
* NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
* Experience in a Health, Safety & Wellbeing advisory role within civils, infrastructure or utilities
* Good working knowledge of CDM Regulations, temporary works and construction risk management
* Ability to engage effectively with site teams, supply chain and clients
* Strong communication and influencing skills
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region
Desirable Qualifications
* Experience within Power, Transmission & Distribution or live utility environments
* NEBOSH Construction Certificate or progress toward diploma‑level qualification
* IOSH membership (TechIOSH / GradIOSH)
