Overview
A leading engineering and consultancy business specialising in automated manufacturing is seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join their team. The role is integral to the assembly, installation, and commissioning of mechanical systems, machinery, and automated equipment across automotive and general industry projects. This is a hands-on role, providing exposure to precision mechanical assemblies, automated systems, and on-site project delivery.
Role & Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will work from detailed engineering drawings and specifications to assemble, fit, and adjust mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and systems. You will perform alignment, testing, and inspection to ensure assemblies meet quality and dimensional standards. The role involves close collaboration with engineers and machinists to resolve design or assembly issues, as well as assisting with installation, commissioning, and maintenance of automated machinery on-site. Safe use of hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment is essential, along with maintaining a tidy, organised, and safe working environment.
Skills & Experience
Applicants should have proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or Assembly Technician in a precision engineering or automated manufacturing environment. A strong understanding of mechanical principles, tolerances, and assembly techniques is required, alongside the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and mechanical schematics. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential. Experience with pneumatic, hydraulic, or automated systems is advantageous but not required. NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is preferred.
