An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the CBU1 Matron Team at Barnsley Hospital.
As the Matron, you will be focused on patient safety, patient experience, and quality assurance frameworks. You must be able to demonstrate a compassionate approach to the care of patients and the public, whilst also possessing the ability to ensure robust clinical operational demands are met.
The post holder will act as the professional Nurse Lead, providing clinical advice, leadership development, monitoring, and management of all nursing resources to facilitate excellent nursing practice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.
We are looking for an individual with extensive Band 7 experience. You will be a professional role model with high standards, demonstrating flexibility, visibility, and excellent communication skills to patients, families, staff, and play a key role in influencing and supporting wider strategic drivers.
Main duties of the job
The Matron will support the ADON in providing dynamic, professional, and operational management and leadership for wards/departments and specialist nurses.
The post holder will facilitate, support, and empower wards/departments to manage their areas effectively, supporting the development of ward staff and services to ensure systems and processes are in place to maintain safe and effective care at all times.
The post holder will support the delivery of the Trust's overall objectives and service priorities, with a particular focus on nursing practice, patient experience, and involvement in the development of services and standards of cleanliness and quality care.
The post holder will be accessible and a visible presence, advising and supporting wards/departments, patients, and their families to ensure effective patient care across the entire patient pathway.

Experience
* Extensive experience of working at a senior level of Band 7 or above within nursing/midwifery.
* Experience managing a ward or department.
* Proven experience of leading change and problem solving.
* Experience in standard setting and audit.
* Experience influencing clinical practice.
* Experience undertaking research and/or publication.
Knowledge and Awareness
* Specialist knowledge of clinical specialty, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Awareness of current professional and health service priorities.
* Understanding of Clinical Governance and patient safety agendas.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety, Confidentiality, and Safeguarding.
Qualifications
* First Level Registered Nurse or Midwife as appropriate.
* Current in-depth knowledge of the national nursing agenda.
* Teaching qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
* Degree-level education.
* Masters level education or equivalent.
* Experience leading or participating in a research project.
* Training in Root Cause Analysis.
