Overview
Campion Hall is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and effective Maintenance Assistant to help maintain its historic buildings and key services. The Maintenance Assistant will report to the Maintenance Manager, whilst working under the overall supervision of the Bursar. Professionalism, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work under pressure are required. Applicants will have proven skills in a comparable environment and will be able to work independently and as part of a small team.
Duties
* To assist with daily maintenance requests, enquiries and problems presented by fellows, students, staff, and residents at both the Hall and external Hall accommodation, as reported to the Maintenance Manager;
* To carry out internal and external painting and decorating, general maintenance work and assist with new maintenance projects;
* To carry out emergency repairs and ongoing general maintenance work to all Hall buildings, such as changing light bulbs, minor furniture repairs and a wide range of basic general repairs;
* To carry out regular inspections of fire safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers and fire signage; maintain fire doors and assist with emergency light, fire alarm testing, etc., and update records of the same; To assist with fire evacuation drills as required;
* To carry out regular inspections of the Hall's hot water system, such as temperature checks, signage, water testing etc., and update records of the same;
* To correctly use and securely store all machinery, equipment, tools and materials used for maintenance tasks;
* To ensure that the Maintenance workshop is kept clean and tidy;
* To assist in the collection of utilities meter readings from all Hall buildings;
* To assist in a variety of duties relating to Hall Events including furniture arrangements, setting-up and clearing away of audio/visual/microphone systems;
* To assist the Gardeners to ensure the garden area and garden furniture are well maintained;
* To be aware of and abide by the COSHH and Asbestos registers, occupational risk assessments and to observe the Hall's policies at all times, especially on Health and Safety;
* To abide by the Hall's employee handbook;
* To attend training courses as directed by the Bursar;
* To carry out any additional appropriate duties including covering for sickness/ holidays of other staff as required.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Fluent spoken and written English;
* Good knowledge and experience of painting and decorating;
* Basic maintenance skills and experience in carpentry, domestic plumbing, plastering;
* Knowledge of current health and safety regulations;
* Physical fitness, e.g. ability to climb stairs and deal with heavy items;
* Computer and IT literate including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook;
* Team player and the ability to work on your own initiative;
* Good interpersonal skills;
* Flexible approach to working and committed to delivering a high level of service;
* Reliable with an excellent attendance and timekeeping record;
* A positive and helpful attitude towards work and colleagues;
* A willingness to learn and adapt;
Desirable:
* Experience of working in a listed-building environment;
* Experience of working within an educational environment.

Pay: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
