Senior Structural Engineer (1 year FTC) – Bristol, England.
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Site Engineer to join our Bath‑based structural team while working from site offices on the south‑west outskirts of Bristol. The ideal candidate will have a Senior Engineer level of experience, with a broad portfolio covering a range of projects and sectors.
Key Responsibilities
* Work independently and as part of a team, mentoring junior staff.
* Produce reports and presentations to an excellent standard on time and to budget.
* Share and disseminate work among the site and office‑based design teams.
* Present designs at internal workshops and chair external meetings with other project stakeholders when required.
* Lead the structural site team by planning ahead, making timely decisions and corrective actions while fostering an atmosphere for high‑quality work.
* Collaborate with the office‑based structural team, other Buro Happold disciplines, contractor teams and wider project stakeholders.
* Reinforce communication of the structural design intent to the contractor and project team.
* Record and communicate observations of structural site works as they progress.
* Record and communicate variations to the designed structure and coordinate approval or corrective solutions with the office‑based structural team.
Skills & Experience
* Extensive experience as a site‑based Engineer, Resident Engineer or Clerk of Works.
* Experience in building structures design.
* Experience as a Structural Engineer on major projects.
* Broad design knowledge across a wide range of projects using British and European codes of practice.
* Chartered Member of the ICE or IStructE with the Engineering Council UK or equivalent body.
* Bachelor’s degree (BEng/BSc) or Master’s degree (MEng/MSc) in a relevant discipline.
* Ability to provide pastoral care to junior team members as a line manager and to be an active part of an inclusive, supportive team.
