Message from the Director

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children, young people, and families? Do you want to be part of a transformative journey to improve Havering’s Children's Social Care Services? If so, we invite you to join us in our mission to enhance our local authority's services within the Starting Well Department.

Following a recent inadequate Ofsted inspection, we are committed to an improvement journey to re-establish and reinvigorate excellent practice across all our services. We seek dedicated social care practitioners eager to make a difference, advocate for children, and promote their well-being, even in challenging circumstances.

We offer opportunities for professional development through our dedicated training days, Social Care Academy, and systemic practice programs. We aim to create a supportive environment where every child receives the best care and all staff can thrive.

Our senior leadership team has developed an improvement plan, and we encourage those ready to embrace this challenge to apply and be part of our journey.

About the role

Havering is recruiting Advanced Practitioners to deliver effective children’s social care services within a social work team, improving outcomes for children and young people. Responsibilities include managing caseloads of varying complexity, using specialist knowledge for assessments, care planning, and child protection investigations.

If successful, you will/will be:

* Manage and supervise a small team of qualified and non-social work staff.
* Handle complex and challenging cases.
* Support the team manager in maintaining high professional standards.
* Apply specialist knowledge of social work practice with children and families to develop service provision and strategic initiatives.
* Develop skills and knowledge in practice issues, providing consultation, coaching, mentoring, and high-quality case management.
* Support team development and recruitment processes.
