How You Will Contribute: Reporting to the Director, Global Technical Support, you will serve as the Resident Engineer for a strategic customer based in Newbury, UK. You will be responsible for delivering advanced post-sales technical support across CIENA’s optical transport and network management product lines, including 6500, RLS, Waveserver, and MCP. In this role, you will: Act as the primary technical contact, providing on-site and remote support for Ciena products. Troubleshoot complex system-level issues and recommend network solutions. Create and review customer-facing documentation (e.g., MOPs, RCAs) and perform network audits and health checks. Collaborate cross-functionally with development, service, and sales teams to resolve incidents and ensure customer satisfaction. Travel occasionally based on customer requirements (no on-call duty in this assignment; possible in future roles). The Must Haves: Education : Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Experience : 2–5 years in technical support, preferably with a telecom equipment vendor. Technical Knowledge : Expertise in DWDM, ROADM, OTN, Broadband, Photonics, and switching/transport technologies. Hands-on experience with Ciena platforms (6500, RLS, Waveserver) and network management solutions. Strong knowledge of amplifiers, CDC configurations, and associated modules. Familiarity with optical test equipment and network performance tools. Proficiency in troubleshooting and debugging complex fiber optic system-level issues. Understanding of data communications protocols and interoperability between products. Tools & Automation : Experience writing Python scripts or similar for automation and workflow enhancements. Assets: Strong documentation skills — able to produce RCAs, MOPs, and health checks. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and solve critical network issues. Team player who thrives in collaborative, knowledge-sharing environments.
