Job Overview
Essex Sexual Health Service (ESHS) is the sexual health provider in Essex, led by Provide Community and commissioned by Essex County Council. The post holder will work as part of the outreach and education team, focusing on the delivery of relationship, sex and health education. Responsibilities include one‑to‑one support and small‑group work with young people and training others who support young people. ESHS encourages applications from individuals with teaching, youth work or experience with seldom‑heard communities.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the design and delivery of effective health promotion (HP) and behaviour change communication (BCC) interventions for young people and high‑risk groups. Work will include delivering RSHE, parent sessions, educator training, community engagement, addressing health inequalities, HIV stigma, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and increasing access to eC‑Card and broader sexual health services across Essex.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* Support educational establishments, parents, carers and other professionals in RSHE delivery.
* Coordinate the eC‑Card scheme and support professionals to become eC‑Card assessors and distributors.
* Increase awareness of sexual health topics by delivering training days and community education sessions.
* Provide 1‑2‑1 education and early intervention for young people at risk of harm or sexual ill‑health.
* Deliver targeted HP/BCC outreach interventions to relevant communities.
* Achieve competency to become an Assistant Practitioner (AP) to offer HIV/Syphilis point‑of‑care testing (POCT) and other testing in community settings.
* Facilitate HP/BCC interventions virtually and face‑to‑face with target populations and partner agencies.
* Develop, maintain and use systems to monitor HP/BCC interventions, ensuring high‑quality data entry and reporting.
* Establish and maintain professional relationships with partner agencies and represent ESHS at key meetings.
* Promote long‑acting reversible contraception (LARC) and distribute self‑testing kits for STIs where possible.
* Support the development of networks with alternative education settings for vulnerable young people.
* Manage resource availability to deliver HP/BCC interventions across the team.
* Work with the co‑production and user involvement team to incorporate young people’s views into service delivery.
* Undertake CPD to improve skills and maintain knowledge of sexual health and HIV.
* Assist with campaigns and events such as World AIDS Day, National HIV Testing Week, Sexual Health Week, LGBT+ History Month, Pride, Black History Month and other promotions.
* Manage own workload, calendars, timesheets, leave records and notify line manager of any changes.
* Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends as required.
Person specification
Skills
* Clean driving licence and access to a car for county travel; willingness to work evenings and weekends.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and stakeholder relationship management.
* Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and database entry.
* Strong accuracy, numeracy and literacy skills for data input.
Qualifications
* Desirable: relevant teaching qualification or accredited RSHE qualification.
Experience
* Essential: experience delivering education/training to professionals and/or community groups; understanding of challenges faced by young people; ability to communicate at age‑appropriate levels.
* Desirable: experience working directly with young people on a 1‑to‑1 basis; experience delivering and evaluating health promotion interventions to communities with health inequalities.
Knowledge
* Essential: commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; good understanding of local area.
* Desirable: knowledge of HIV prevention, sexual health, contraception and other health needs of at‑risk communities; awareness of national and local sexual health and HIV issues.
