Design Manager – Water / Wastewater Frameworks

Location: Solihull (Hybrid: 3 days office / 2 days home)
Type: Contract | £400 - £450 a day Outside IR35 or Umbrella PAYE
We’re seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the delivery of non-infrastructure wastewater projects within major UK water frameworks (AMP7 & AMP8). This is a fantastic opportunity to join a Tier 1 contractor working on complex, multi-disciplinary design and construction projects.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will take ownership of the design process from defining scope through to delivery, ensuring projects meet technical, commercial, and sustainability goals. You will work closely with project managers, commercial teams, and consultants to drive innovation, efficiency, and low-carbon solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Define and manage design scope, deliverables, and change processes
* Review and challenge design programmes to ensure efficiency and affordability
* Coordinate and chair design meetings and workshops (DfMA, carbon, buildability, CDM)
* Oversee BIM strategy implementation (ISO 19650)
* Lead technical assurance and CDM reviews
* Support procurement decisions with clear design input
* Maintain strong stakeholder relationships and governance compliance
About You
* HNC/HND or Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
* Progressing towards Chartered status (or already Chartered)
* Experience in design management within the water/wastewater sector (Mechanical, Electrical, ICA, or Civils)
* Strong understanding of wastewater processes and asset types
* Knowledge of NEC4 contracts, design delivery, and procurement
* Skilled in programme management and BIM strategy
* Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
* Full UK driving licence
