Garden Services Team Leader – Bishopthorpe, York
Temporary contract to cover maternity leave, starting mid‑June and ending on or before mid‑August 2027.
Salary, Hours and Benefits
* Salary: £16,318 per annum (FTE 27,816 based on 37.5 hours per week)
* Hours: 22 per week. Working pattern: Monday or Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
* Benefits: full paid training, paid DBS check, 7 weeks holiday pro‑ratio (including bank holidays)
About Brunswick Organic Nursery
Brunswick Organic Nursery is a registered charity based in Bishopthorpe, York, providing a productive and rewarding workplace for people with learning disabilities to grow and thrive. We offer opportunities across a community gardening service, crafts, woodwork, cooking and office administration.
About the Role
Garden Services fulfils a wide range of gardening contracts, from one‑off landscaping and planting projects to regular garden maintenance; from developing accessible or sensory gardens to building raised beds and ponds. The work is varied, rewarding and showcases the team’s knowledge and abilities.
This role also manages the business and operational aspects of the service, including contract management, quoting, invoicing, health and safety and supervising one other staff member.
About You
Qualities and experience required:
* Experience managing a garden maintenance service or similar enterprise.
* Strong knowledge of design, plants and garden maintenance.
* Ideally, experience enabling others in horticulture.
* Excellent organisational skills and strong customer service.
* Ability to build genuine connections with colleagues and think holistically about people, taking responsibility for the team’s welfare.
* Positive can‑do attitude, straightforward approach and a desire to make a difference.
