We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our design team in Edinburgh.
You will play a crucial role in developing innovative mechanical designs and solutions for our new Satellite Gateway, Terminal & Communications products which exploit Electronically Scanned Phased Array technologies.
Your engineering expertise will contribute to the advancement of cutting-edge technology, so experience of new product introduction, designing for manufacture and transitioning products into production would all be helpful.
You will produce design options for our new products, focussing on modularity and ease of assembly, as well as analyse the predicted performance to ensure the optimum mechanical design.
You will work as part of a design team, liaising regularly with engineers from other disciplines, in particular RF and test engineers.
Responsibilities
* In-depth knowledge of Mechanical Design Engineering processes and practices
* A degree (MSc preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualifications / experience
* Commercial experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer role
* Hands-on experience in the design of complex mechanical structures and assemblies
* Good understanding of technical design limitations and experience of providing solutions for practical mechanical design issues
* Innovative approaches to how designs can be assembled or manufactured
* Experience working with mechanical 3D CAD tools eg SolidWorks; standard manufacturing technologies eg CNC machining, 3D printing, additive manufacturing, plating, casting etc and of computational modelling tools for thermal, vibrational and stress analysis eg ANSYS, would all be a plus
* An understanding of design for manufacture is important
* Concepting and new-idea generation for new products, including the assessment of risks involved with new designs and concepts
