This is a delivery role within an establishment requiring an appropriate trade. This role involves working with and supervising prisoners.
All staff have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The post holder must undertake the appropriate level of training and work within the safeguarding policies of the organization.
Summary
The job holder will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the grounds and amenity areas within the estate. This is a non-operational role with no line management or supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities, Activities and Duties
* Carry out soft landscaping, turf laying, and hard landscaping such as laying patio stones.
* Maintain the grounds and amenity areas, including lawns, ponds, water features, and woodland.
* Work inside and outside the establishment grounds: cutting, mowing, and maintaining areas according to accepted practices.
* Maintain sports fields in collaboration with the Land-based Activities Manager and PE Department.
* Implement pest control measures across the responsibility area.
* Undertake small projects like landscape development and erect horticultural support structures as needed.
* Ensure proper soil husbandry and crop development following good horticultural practices.
* Maintain safe access and exits to the estate.
* Supervise prisoner work parties and conduct quality control as per the Service Delivery Agreement (SDA).
* Perform planned maintenance and small repairs, managing service requests via the computer-aided facilities management system.
* Conduct survey inspections in confined spaces and at heights, recording work and maintaining logs.
* Undertake project work as required.
* Manage stock levels, procure necessary goods and services, and log all materials used.
* Escort and supervise technical contractors in accordance with the Local Security Strategy (LSS).
* Maintain communication via radio in line with LSS protocols.
* Serve as banksman, directing plant equipment and machinery operations.
* Ensure tools and machinery are checked regularly and documented properly, complying with LSS and NSF standards.
* Adhere to all Health and Safety policies, procedures, and legislation.
* Drive estate vehicles and operate plant equipment.
* Perform locking duties as required.
* Operate within command mode according to local contingency plans.
* Handle urgent and emergency tasks safely, meeting Service Delivery Agreement timelines.
* Assemble products on-site as needed.
* Contribute to prisoner reports, including parole and sentence planning.
The above duties are current but not exhaustive. The job holder may be asked to undertake additional tasks of similar level, with adjustments discussed initially.
The role requires confident communication in English or Welsh (in Wales).
