Health and Safety Officer
Warwickshire Public Sector. Full‑time temporary role on an ongoing basis.
Role
The key purpose of the role is to act as the Council’s competent person for Health and Safety, ensuring compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
* Develop, implement and monitor corporate Health and Safety policies and procedures.
* Provide expert advice to management, directors, and staff on all matters related to Health and Safety legislation and compliance.
* Support housing maintenance and management services, including advice on building and tenant safety and responding to resident inquiries.
* Manage the Council’s risk assessment process, conduct inspections and audits, and undertake complex risk assessments where required.
* Lead investigations into major incidents and ensure accurate recording and reporting, including RIDDOR submissions.
* Deliver in‑house Health and Safety training and promote a culture of continuous improvement across all services.
* Prepare reports, monitor performance indicators, and recommend practical improvements in health and safety management.
Candidate
Required qualifications and experience:
* NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
* Technical Membership (Tech IOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or equivalent).
* Proven experience providing Health and Safety advice in a multi‑disciplined organisation.
Additional beneficial skills:
* Strong understanding of Health and Safety legislation and best practice, particularly within housing and construction.
* Excellent communication, problem‑solving and influencing skills.
* Ability to identify hazards, assess risks and develop effective safe systems of work.
* Full UK driving licence and access to own transport.
Remuneration
£35 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £28 per hour PAYE).
