The teams work on the development of a range of metal cans for beverage, food, and aerosol applications and their associated manufacturing processes. They are responsible for delivering new and improved products and processes, and providing technical support to Crown's global manufacturing operations. As a key member of a small team of experts, the Development Engineer will be engaged in engineering project work, to develop and improve metal packaging products and manufacturing processes, from ideas and concepts, through development and on to implementation in a Crown plant. The typical accountabilities for this role include:
Responsibilities
* Use CAD (SolidWorks) to design metal packaging components, tools, and machine parts, and create detailed technical drawings and DFM analyses.
* Organise and undertake product and process development work in the technical facilities at Crown Technology, setting up equipment and manufacturing samples for testing, demonstration and customer trials.
* Evaluate and prove new product specifications.
* Generate product manufacturing standards and specifications.
* Transfer technology into the manufacturing plants, preparing the necessary documentation, providing commissioning support and demonstrating capability against dimensional and performance requirements.
* Provide a problem‑solving resource to the operations, helping resolve manufacturing issues in Crown's plants.
* Analyse graphical representations of data and interpret results into a technical report.
Qualifications
* Relevant experience in Manufacturing Engineering/Design & Build environments.
* A strong mechanical design ability with 3D‑CAD experience.
* Ability to perform hands‑on tooling and machine set‑up.
* Ability to problem‑solve independently and work autonomously.
* Ability to drive project work with minimal supervision.
* Strong statistical and data analysis skills.
* Understanding of materials and DFM.
* Degree level education in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or equivalent skills obtained through a formal apprenticeship combined with further education.
