Mechanical Engineer - Production Engineering
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineer to join a newly established Production Engineering team within a high-technology engineering environment.
This role focuses on bridging the gap between research & development and manufacturing, ensuring products are successfully transitioned into scalable, robust production. You'll play a key role in developing production processes, designing tooling, and driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
New Product Introduction (NPI) & Manufacturing Transfer
1. Support the transfer of products from development into manufacturing
2. Conduct Design for Manufacture/Assembly (DFM/DFA) reviews
3. Lead mechanical activities within NPI projects
4. Collaborate with design teams to ensure manufacturable solutions
Production Engineering Development
5. Design and develop assembly fixtures, tooling, and test jigs
6. Create and maintain build instructions and production documentation
7. Establish controlled, repeatable manufacturing processes
Continuous Improvement & Optimisation
8. Improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and repeatability
9. Identify opportunities to reduce build time and production costs
10. Implement engineering changes to enhance manufacturability
Production Support & Problem Solving
11. Provide hands-on support for mechanical issues in production
12. Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
13. Support non-conformance investigations and quality improvements
Skills & Experience
Essential
14. Degree (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering or similar
15. Experience in production, manufacturing, or mechanical design engineering
16. Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks or similar)
17. Knowledge of manufacturing methods (machining, sheet metal, moulding, assemblies)
