Communications Assistant

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.
This is a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn, combining training with hands‑on experience inside a busy communications department. Working alongside a team of communications professionals, you will be exposed to media relations, internal communications, design and print, social media, and digital communications, and will provide support to the team.
Responsibilities
* Report to and support the Communications and Engagement Specialist – Research and Innovation and the wider communications team in the delivery of all communications.
* Maintain the photo library, distribution lists, contact databases, media and stakeholder database, and the generic communications inbox.
* Respond to correspondence arriving by email, logging and tracking responses.
* Support the development and collation of communications resources and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Ensure corporate information is kept up to date on the intranet and website, and source printing and publication services.
* Undertake action notes at meetings and track actions.
* Answer the departmental telephone professionally, direct callers, and take messages comprehensively.
* Act as a guardian for the NHS and Trust brand guidelines, implementing the guidelines consistently across your work and contributing to the development of the Trust's brand.
* Capture imagery/video, log filming and photography consent documentation in line with GDPR requirements and Trust policies for use in press and social media.
* Maintain and enhance your own personal and professional skills and undertake required training as part of your personal development plan.
* Undertake any other duties which might reasonably be required, commensurate with the post.
* The role will require significant desk‑based work and frequent attendance at meetings and photo‑shoots.
Essential Qualifications
* GCSE A*–C in English Language or equivalent (e.g. Functional Skills Level 2; Certificate in Adult Literacy at Level 2)
* GCSE A*–C or equivalent in Mathematics (e.g. Functional Skills Level 2, Certificate in Adult Numeracy at Level 2)
Skills & Experience
* Ability to work as a member of a team.
* Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office software.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Organisational skills, including the ability to manage and prioritise an unpredictable workload, multi‑task and meet deadlines under pressure.
* Digital fluency, confidence exploring new digital and social platforms.
* Professional attitude when dealing with internal and external audiences and stakeholders.
Personal Qualities
* Resilient, able to work under pressure in a busy environment.
* Team player, capable of building good relationships quickly and working in partnership with colleagues and external stakeholders.
* Flexible and adaptable to change.
* Willingness to undertake appropriate training.
