Trainee Operative, Watford, Competitive Salary

Overview

Looking for a hands-on role with a leading company in intelligent transport solutions? SRL Traffic Systems specializes in traffic management innovation, providing portable signals, message boards, and CCTV. Our mission is to create safer, more efficient roads through sustainable solutions.

About the Role

The primary role of an Operative is to support the depot daily, including out-of-hours on-call duties for delivery and setup of portable traffic lights, collections, battery exchanges, and inspection and repairs of our TFL hire fleet and trailer hire fleet at depots and customer sites. Objectives will be set by the Regional Manager.

PPE, a mobile phone, company van, and fuel card will be provided. Hours are 42.5 weekly, with overtime on an as-needed basis. The shift pattern is 8am – 5pm, Monday to Friday. Overtime, call-out rates, and fixed-price rates are claimable and can be discussed during the interview.


Key Accountabilities

* Ensure all work within depots and at customer sites prioritizes safety and maintains high housekeeping standards.
* Minimize environmental impact and prevent pollution incidents.
* Follow all health and safety procedures, identify hazards, and mitigate risks.
* Support a 'Don’t walk by' culture by reporting near misses to prevent accidents.
* Comply with toolbox talks, risk assessments, method statements, and COSHH assessments.
* Conduct oneself professionally at client sites and adhere to site rules.
* Build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
* Perform inspections, servicing, and repairs of hire fleet and complete all relevant paperwork.
* Maintain vehicle and work tool cleanliness and ensure equipment is fit for purpose.
* Liaise with customers before and after visits, obtain signatures and PO’s as required.
* Work safely, wear PPE, and keep the work area tidy.
* Manage van spares stock levels and replenish when needed.
* Represent the company professionally and support training and development.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager.


Key Skills

* Ability to work independently and in a team.
* Full driving license – no more than 6 points.
* Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
* Customer-focused and safety-conscious.
* Reliable, flexible team player.
* Physical fitness and enthusiasm.
* Basic electrical skills and understanding of testing and repairs.
* Experience with stock control, driving larger vehicles, and towing trailers.


Qualifications

* GCSE grade C (4) in English and Maths.
