An exciting opportunity has arisen for an energetic, enthusiastic and well‑motivated Biomedical Scientist to join our Bacteriology Department within Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services, based at Wexham Park Hospital.
We are looking for a scientist with a genuine interest in microbiology who can work effectively as part of a busy, friendly team. The successful applicant will be HCPC registered, have completed the IBMS Registration Portfolio, and ideally bring some experience of working as a Biomedical Scientist within a microbiology setting.
This role requires a team player who demonstrates initiative, flexibility and a proactive approach to delivering and improving our service. In return, you will be supported to develop your knowledge and skills within a progressive and supportive department that values continuous professional development.
Main Duties
* Under supervision perform the diagnostic microbiology examination and reporting of specimens received to aid patient treatment and care.
* Develop and use interpretive skills on culture plates and complex analysers combined with the Laboratory Information Management System to deliver the diagnostic microbiology service to our users.
* Participate in formal and informal staff meetings to help improve communication, information, objectives, plans and development transfer throughout the department and Trust.
* Study towards the completion of the Specialist portfolio.
* Maintain a current record of CPD activities.

Qualifications
* HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist.
* IBMS Certificate of Competence.
* BSc Biomedical Science or equivalent.
* Willing to undergo relevant training to ensure sound relevant knowledge.
* IBMS member at Associate or Licentiate level.
* ECDL.

Salary: £33,677 to £40,996 a year, including HCAS.
