Due to our continued growth, we are now recruiting for a BMS System Architect to be based at our customer's site in Gaydon.
Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also manages critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring ASPICE compliance and delivering reliable, secure, high-quality embedded systems & solutions.
The Role:
As a BMS System Architect, you will define and oversee the end-to-end architecture for cutting-edge battery management systems, integrating control, hardware, and diagnostic components. Your technical leadership will shape interfaces between SDU Controls, Cell Supervisory Controllers (CSC), and WGM hardware to ensure optimal system performance, safety compliance, and scalability.
Area of Responsibility
1. System Architecture & Design:
o Define and evolve the holistic architecture of BMS across functional domains and hardware interfaces.
o Architect scalable and robust integration schemes for SDU, CSC, and WGM units.
o Balance requirements including safety, reliability, thermal management, and electrical performance.
2. Requirement Definition & Traceability:
o Capture, structure, and decompose high-level system requirements into detailed specifications.
o Establish traceability from stakeholder inputs through design and verification using tools like IBM DOORS or Polarion.
3. Integration Strategy & Technical Oversight:
o Guide multidisciplinary teams across software, controls, hardware, and validation.
o Define integration boundaries, communication protocols, timing, and fault handling.
o Support validation activities including HIL setup, test case scoping, and failure mode simulations.
4. Stakeholder & Compliance Coordination:
o Liaise with internal leaders, suppliers, and product owners to align architecture goals.
o Ensure compliance with standards like ISO 26262 and regulatory frameworks.
Knowledge / Experience
* Experience in embedded architecture, system-level design, or BMS integration.
* Proven track record in architecting complex control systems across hardware and software domains.
* Familiarity with CAN, LIN, SPI communication systems and real-time embedded platforms.
* Proficient in modeling and documentation tools (e.g., SysML, MATLAB/Simulink, Enterprise Architect).
Preferred Attributes
* Experience with AUTOSAR architectures and safety-critical applications.
* Deep knowledge of lithium-ion battery technology, cell balancing algorithms, and thermal modeling.
* Strategic mindset with attention to technical detail and collaboration.
* Background in automotive, aerospace, or electrification platforms with high-voltage integration.
