Finance Director
London / Hybrid (at least 2 days per week in London)
Salary: c. £85,000 + excellent benefits

We’re recruiting on behalf of a high-profile professional membership organisation as they appoint their first-ever Finance Director. This is a pivotal role leading financial strategy, ensuring robust financial stewardship, and driving sustainable long-term growth.
About the role:
This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead the financial direction of an organisation undergoing modernisation and transformation. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll oversee a small but dedicated finance team and work closely with the Board, senior leadership and external stakeholders to support the organisation's vision and strategic goals. You’ll also take oversight of the IT strategy in collaboration with the Director of Knowledge and Networks.
As a key member of the senior leadership team, your work will directly influence the organisation’s future, helping maximise its impact and value to members and its wider professional community.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the development and implementation of financial strategy across the organisation and its trading subsidiary.
Deliver robust financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
Manage relationships with auditors, investment managers, pension trustees and other key partners.
Provide strategic advice to the CEO, Finance Committee and Board of Trustees.
Oversee IT strategy and systems, ensuring they align with operational needs.
Ensure regulatory compliance including Charity Commission, Companies House and GDPR.
Lead, support and develop a high-performing finance team.
What we’re looking for:
Qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA).
Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role.
Strong team leadership and line management experience.
A track record of working with Boards, Committees or senior stakeholders.
Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information for non-financial audiences.
Knowledge of financial systems, tools and risk management best practice.
Experience in the not-for-profit, membership or charity sector.
Knowledge of UK Charity SORP.
Experience supporting change and transformation initiatives.
