Electronic Trading Engineer - JP Morgan - London - Onsite role
We are seeking an Electronic Trading Engineer to join JP Morgan's Trading Technology Team on a multi‑year integration programme in London on an initial 12‑month contract. You should have recent experience of Fidessa and/or other EMS and OMS technologies along with deep expertise of equities trading to be considered for this position.
Overview
As an Electronic Trading Engineer, you will be responsible for integrating JP Morgan's in‑house Order Management System (OMS) with Fidessa EMS and later contribute to the strategic evolution toward a multi‑EMS/headless EMS architecture supporting greater flexibility and scalability in trade execution.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead design, development, and deployment of the OMS‑Fidessa EMS integration, covering order entry, execution feedback, and trade allocation workflows.
* Define and implement FIX protocol connectivity, including session setup, drop‑copy feeds, execution reports, and order routing.
* Work closely with Fidessa technical teams to establish robust API, feed, and service‑level integrations aligned with internal OMS message schemas.
* Analyze, document, and optimise end‑to‑end trade life‑cycle workflows, from order creation to execution, booking, and trade reporting.
* Partner with Front Office users, Product, and Risk/Compliance to ensure trading controls, position management, and reporting integrity.
* Provide advanced troubleshooting for OMS‑EMS interaction issues, including message sequencing, latency, and reconciliation gaps.
* Contribute to design and proof‑of‑concepts for multi‑EMS/headless EMS architecture, ensuring modularity, fault tolerance, and venue flexibility.
* Document interface specifications, integration patterns, and configuration runbooks for operational support teams.
Skills and Experience
Trading and Functional Expertise
* Extensive experience of equities trading technology, ideally within large buy‑side or sell‑side institutions.
* Previous experience working with Fidessa alongside custom or vendor‑based Order Management Systems (OMS) in large enterprise settings.
* In‑depth understanding of trading workflows across high‑touch, low‑touch, and algo trading flows.
* Familiarity with market structure (US, EMEA, APAC) and concepts such as order types, execution algorithms, and smart order routing.
* Strong grasp of front‑to‑back trade life‑cycle, including order creation, execution capture, allocations, trade booking, and regulatory reporting.
* Knowledge of pre‑trade risk controls, position keeping, and market data dependencies.
Required Skillset
* Extensive FIX protocol experience, including versions 4.2, 4.4 and 5.0.
* Hands‑on experience configuring Fidessa EMS integrations – order flows and drop‑copy feeds.
* Hands‑on experience managing EMS routing rules, wheel, FDM and other configurations.
* Experience with OMS platforms such as Bloomberg AIM, FlexTrade, Charles River, or custom in‑house systems.
Soft Skills
* Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and debugging abilities.
* Strong written documentation and communication skills – capable of translating complex system issues into clear narratives.
* Proven track record of collaborating with traders, product managers, and infrastructure teams in fast‑paced environments.
Nice to have skills
* Strong background in API‑based and message‑driven architectures, including Kafka, JMS, or MQ‑based middleware.
* Proficiency with SQL for trade/order data analysis and reconciliation.
* Exposure to Java/Python for scripting, debugging, or developing integration utilities.
* Familiarity with AWS or hybrid cloud environments, including basic knowledge of ECS/EKS or containerised deployment models.
* Understanding of real‑time monitoring tools (Grafana, Splunk, AppDynamics) for latency and reliability tracking.
* Knowledge of microservices and REST‑based trading integration models is a plus.
