Job Overview

Main duties of the job
All applicants must be a Registered Nurse, with recent experience at Band 5 and meet the Band 6 Job Description person specification. Experience in both pathways is essential. The post involves working as a Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse on Ward 7 Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward.
Applicants will also undertake mentorship of student nurses and preceptorship of newly qualified nurses while assisting the ward sisters, ensuring that the fundamentals of care are maintained to a high standard. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
 * NMC Registered Nurse
 * Advanced Life Support or willingness to undertake it
Desirable criteria
 * Degree in Nursing or a relevant clinical/professional subject
 * APRSL, APLS, PLS (alert, Raat)
Experience
Essential criteria
 * Significant post-reg experience at Band 5
 * Experience within an appropriate clinical area
Desirable criteria
 * Experience of undertaking audit work and standard setting
Skills / Competence
Essential criteria
 * Evidence of good ward organisational skills
 * Problem solving
 * Negotiation and communication with patients and MDT members
 * IT skills: e‑mail, Word, Myddryn, Oracle, TPATH
Desirable criteria
 * Advanced clinical skills – venepuncture, phlebotomy, ECG
 * Adapt and propose change in working situation
Knowledge
Essential criteria
 * Knowledge and application of consent, data protection, patient confidentiality
 * Knowledge of local policies, procedures and guidelines
