Senior Lawyer roles
We are recruiting Senior Lawyer roles to work on environmental law within the Environment Agency's in-house legal service. These roles involve providing legal advice, litigation support and policy input across a range of environmental regulation areas.
* Provide legal advice on interpretation and enforcement of environmental law, decision-making and risk management.
* Contribute to the development of environmental policy and legislation.
* Advise on regulatory notices, civil penalties and operator compliance.
* Represent the Agency in statutory appeals to the Planning Inspectorate, First Tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal.
* Train colleagues in the application of relevant law.
Fully qualified lawyer (solicitor, barrister or legal executive) entitled to practise in England with at least three (3) years post-qualification experience.
* Strong analytical skills and appreciation of legal risk.
* Ability to understand legal issues in a broader context and to learn new areas quickly.
* Effective communication, flexibility and experience influencing senior management, including Chief Executive level.

Senior Lawyers receive a Market Forces Factor allowance of £5,250 per annum. Flexible working arrangements are offered, including part‑time, job‑share and returns from career breaks. Home working is combined with attendance at the contractual office base and occasional travel.
