Section Engineer
Location: Heathrow Airport
The Role:
Section Engineer will be responsible for the management of the construction site to achieve required project delivery to the customers’ objectives, while maintaining standards of health and safety, quality, environmental impact, and cost control.
They will deliver multiple ongoing projects, to the specified quality, the required programme, and to maximum commercial performance.
The post-holder will work closely with the Commercial Department, engineers, and surveyors to ensure projects are completed safely while maintaining or exceeding customer requirements and expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Set a high personal example of safety and environmental behavior.
* Supervise subcontractors, assistants, site engineers, and workforce, ensuring they understand RAMS before starting work on setting out methods and techniques.
* Check the setting out by shift engineers for correctness and ensure responsibilities are followed (testing materials, briefing operatives, filling check sheets).
* Maintain survey book standards and daily diaries, supporting their manager.
* Attend and sometimes run coordination meetings with stakeholders and subcontractors.
* Ensure 3D information drawings and specifications contain sufficient, accurate information for construction. Request missing information timely to avoid delays.
* Ensure inspection and test plans are completed and digitally recorded as per PMP/Specification, including dimension accuracy and quality checks.
* Prepare and monitor a 2-4 week programme with subcontractors and suppliers.
* Monitor work to promptly remedy unsafe conditions and non-compliance with policies and procedures.
* Consider plant, labor, material costs, and the programme.
* Carry out material take-offs and requisitions as requested.
* Complete Method Statements, Inspection Test Plans, MARs, Task Briefings, and review documents prepared by others.
* Order materials and maintain a register of all orders.
* Complete Temporary Works Design Briefs and inspect temporary works structures after training.
* Maintain good relations with clients, designers, RE, and supply chain.
* Communicate effectively with foremen and gangers.
* Confirm verbal instructions in writing the same day and keep records of resources for additional works.
* Ensure delivery tickets are cost-coded and forwarded to accounts.
* Perform other duties as required.
Key Skills and Experience:
* Experience at a management engineering level in civil engineering and/or utilities.
* Growing knowledge of commercial and contractual aspects.
* Experience working in a cost-conscious environment.
* People management experience.
* Experience managing subcontractors.
* Stakeholder management experience (client and others).
* Strong civil engineering technology knowledge.
* Problem-solving skills in construction.
* Excellent communication skills.
* CSCS card.
Desirable Skills:
* Airport or critical areas experience.
* Experience in an international organization.
* Stakeholder management beyond the client.
* Membership in the Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent.
