Job Duties
Norfolk State University seeks an experienced scholar and administrator to serve as the Chair for the Department of Engineering. Norfolk State University is a public, urban, comprehensive University with approximately 1000 faculty and staff, and five academic schools and colleges. Responsibilities include but not limited to curriculum oversight, program review, and program assessment, faculty and staff workload assignment, course management, budget development and management, maintenance of the personnel records of faculty and staff, evaluation of academic and professional faculty and departmental staff, oversight of department committees, report preparation and submission, compliance with accreditation standards and University, state, and federal regulations, and collaboration with area private, public, and academic partners for departmental opportunities. Application review will begin on January 5 and continue until the position is filled.
Minimum Qualifications
1. An earned doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a closely related field.
2. Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement in teaching, research and service that merits tenure at the level of associate or full professor in Engineering; and demonstrated experience in academic program leadership showing increasing levels of responsibility.
3. Candidates should possess five or more years of experience in higher education.
4. A record of successful grantsmanship, strong project management and organizational skills.
5. Research experiences that align with departmental initiatives and programs such as quantum science and engineering, semiconductors, microelectronics and photonics, biomedical engineering, renewable energy systems and advanced materials, power electronics and grid integration, mixed and augmented reality.
