Overview
The post is a substantive CAMHS consultant position based at Birch Hill Hospital, Rochdale (OL12 9RD). It is a replacement role following the partial retirement of an existing consultant, creating six new sessions. The successful candidate will join a well‑established Tier 3 Community CAMHS multidisciplinary team, working closely with other consultants, a GP trainee and a core trainee to provide psychiatric support across Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton.
Responsibilities
* Provide child psychiatric service for young people up to the age of 18 years within Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton.
* Assess and manage children and adolescents with a range of mental health needs, including neuro‑developmental disorders, where psychiatric input is required due to complexity, severity or risk.
* Undertake direct clinical work and provide consultation to the team and other agencies.
* Take clinical responsibility for an overall caseload, seeing approximately 24 new cases per annum and maintaining an open follow‑up caseload of 40–50 cases.
* Adhere to policies and procedures supporting the caseload, maintain appropriate professional records, confidentiality, administer out‑patient clinics, and manage discharge and referral procedures.
* Hold 6 sessions in generic CAMHS.
* Lead clinical service delivery and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, participating in and helping to lead the management of referrals, care planning/CPA reviews and liaising with CAMHS, Local Authority, Working Age Adult Mental Health Services and Community Paediatrics.
* Utilise the Care Programme Approach, the New Mental Health Act, the Children Act and the Mental Capacity Act when required.
* Provide partnership working with other professionals and agencies involved in the care of young people across departmental and organisational boundaries, offering regular consultation.
* Support future job planning by potentially serving as the nominated clinical supervisor/trainer for CT or GP trainees.
* Contribute to team supervision, attending monthly team supervision meetings and providing case‑by‑case supervision or consultation when needed.
* Attend monthly peer supervision meetings with consultant colleagues for complex case discussion and caseload management.
* Provide mutual prospective consultant leave cover for annual and study leave with Rochdale CAMHS Consultant colleagues.
Qualifications
* Qualified Consultant in Psychiatry or a suitably qualified Speciality Trainee (ST6) who wishes to work with the team in developing the service.
* Experience in a Tier 3 Community CAMHS setting is desirable.
* Good knowledge of child and adolescent mental health legislation and care pathways.
* Strong communication and team‑working skills.
