Junior Clinical Fellow (F1) in Trauma and Orthopaedics

Applications are invited for a fixed‑term Junior Clinical Fellow post in the Trauma and Orthopaedics department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The post is for 3.5 months, from 15 April 2026 to 4 August 2026.
The position is based at Lister Hospital, Stevenage, and is full‑time. The post holder will be expected to participate in a 1:10 rota.
This is an excellent opportunity within the Trauma and Orthopaedic department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The Clinical Fellow will have opportunities to further their surgical knowledge through exposure to clinics, operating lists (elective and emergency), ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings and formal teaching. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in audits, presentations and teachings.
Main duties of the job
* Participate in clinics.
* Participate in operating lists (elective and emergency).
* Participate in ward rounds.
* Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Engage in formal teaching.
* Participate in audits.
* Make presentations.
* Teach fellow staff.
* The post is not recognised for training; however, the post holder will be encouraged in their training and development within the role.

Qualifications / Training
* Hold a current licence to practice from the General Medical Council.
* Advanced Life Support Certificate or equivalent.
Skills
* Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
* Able to show situational awareness and application of good decision making.
* Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice.
* Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues.
* Ability to teach clinical skills.
* Experience in organising educational activities.
Previous Experience
* Recognition of and ability to undertake the initial management of an acutely ill patient.
* Experience of working in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
* Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems.
* Demonstrate aptitude for practical skills e.g. hand‑eye coordination, dexterity, visuospatial awareness.
* Demonstrable interest in and comprehension of orthopaedics.
* NHS experience.
