We are excited to be seeking a Mechanical Technician to support a UAV programme at West Wales Airport, Aberporth. This 16-month contract starts no later than 03 November 2025, with competitive umbrella rates inside IR35.
The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for the preparation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and rectification of UAV, Ground Control Station (GCS), and Ground Element mechanical systems: including engine, airframe, and controls. The role also involves supporting flight line operations as part of the mission team.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain mechanical components of UAV systems.
* Prepare airfield for UAV launch and recovery.
* Conduct launch and recovery actions associated with UAV operations.
* Perform pre- and post-flight routine checks on UAV systems.
* Support and instruct less experienced maintainers and flight line operators.
* Perform UAV mission launch and recovery: assembly/disassembly at airfield, UAV handling, cleaning, inspections, fuelling, and oil replenishment, runway preparation, towing, and airstrip activities, engine start, checks, and pre-flight operations via FLSCU, and post-flight handling activities.
* Carry out UAV maintenance and troubleshooting, including mechanical testing with test equipment, servicing of generators, batteries, and ground system air conditioning, engine servicing, run-up, adjustments, and minor structural repairs, routine GSE maintenance and LRU replacements, and undertake engine maintenance (servicing, removal/replacement, fuel and oil systems).
* Manage documentation and compliance: aircraft F700 series and technical publications, updating and monitoring GOLDesp LIS.
Knowledge and Experience
* In-depth understanding of F700 Series and Aircraft Data Sets.
* Familiarity with GOLDesp and RESOLVE (desirable).
* Knowledge of airfield, flight line, and runway operations.
* Demonstrable experience in a military or civilian aviation role, ideally aerospace.
* Experience with mechanical first- and second-line maintenance.
* Previous signatory authorisations within MAA structures desirable.
* IT proficiency (Microsoft Office).

* Hours: 37 hours/week across a 9-day fortnight
* Travel and Accommodation: T and S (accommodation and hire car) available for non-local candidates
* Security Clearance: Essential (bonus if already held)
