Position: Mental Health Nurse – Neurodevelopmental Assessments
Location: Harrogate, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Permanent (Full‑Time and Part‑Time Available)
Working Pattern: Clinic‑Based / Hybrid (Minimum 1‑2 days in office)
Salary: £30,000 – £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Role Overview
You will join a passionate and supportive multidisciplinary team dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people and their families. The role requires conducting comprehensive specialist assessments, including diagnostic assessments of individuals with suspected autism and/or ADHD, using established diagnostic tools. You will conduct developmental history interviews, participate in MDT diagnostic discussions, and deliver clear, compassionate feedback to families. Responsibilities include producing accurate clinical reports with diagnostic formulations, meeting service KPIs, and, depending on experience, providing clinical supervision to junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct face‑to‑face structured observations as part of the neurodevelopmental assessment process
* Conduct remote developmental history interviews with parents and carers via Zoom
* Participate collaboratively in peer MDT diagnostic discussions, supported by senior clinicians where needed
* Deliver clear, compassionate feedback to families
* Produce accurate clinical reports, including diagnostic formulations, with the help of smart tools
* Write assessment reports in a timely and professional manner with appropriate recommendations and interventions
* Work efficiently to meet service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
* Deliver clinical supervision to junior staff members (where applicable)
* Attend the Harrogate clinic base for in‑person assessments (minimum 1‑2 days per week)
Essential Requirements
* NMC registered Mental Health Nurse
* Minimum of 1 year experience conducting diagnostic neurodevelopmental/specialist developmental assessments with children and young people OR adults
* Experience with assessment tools for autism and/or ADHD
* Must have worked within a Multi‑Disciplinary Team (MDT) conducting assessments – NOT worked alone
* Willing to conduct assessments for BOTH autism AND ADHD
* Willing to be trained in either area if lacking experience in one
* Knowledge of DSM‑5 diagnostic criteria for autism and ADHD
* Knowledge of differential diagnosis in neurodevelopmental presentations
* Experience working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders or mental health difficulties in a clinical setting
* Effective time management and caseload organisation skills
* Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Experience in report writing and record keeping
* Must be eligible to work in the UK
Highly Desirable
* Trained and experienced in the use of ADOS‑2 and ADI‑R
* Additional qualifications in relevant areas of autism and/or ADHD
