We are seeking a temporary Graduate Geologist to help with sample organisation, preparation and testing within our busy Geology and Geomaterials department. We are looking for someone to start in early January for a period of around six months.
The Role
Sandberg’s Geology and Geomaterials Department comprises an enthusiastic team of Geologists and Geomaterials Scientists whose principal work is in the analysis and failure investigation of construction materials of various types including concrete and natural stone.
As part of our work we receive a high volume of samples from different projects into our laboratory for testing. We are seeking to appoint someone to assist with managing and processing these samples. Their main responsibilities will include some or all of:
* Booking in of samples
* Logging and photographing materials once received
* Updating databases with sample information
* Movement of samples to other laboratories
* Visual examination of core samples
* Investigating and testing construction materials, both natural such as rock, stone, slate and aggregate, and man-made such as concrete, render, plaster and mortar
* Collating and analysing test data, preparing test reports
This is a junior position suitable for (but not restricted to) a recent graduate. Support and training will be provided by Geologists and Senior Geologists within the department. This is a temporary position lasting around six months to provide additional resource within the department.
The Person
You should have a Geology degree and ideally an interest in construction materials. It is not required that a candidate has particular experience outside of their degree.
The key requirements for the role are:
* Training/education in Geology to degree level or equivalent
* Ability to learn new skills
* Work professionally as part of a team
* Ability to arrange and organise own work to meet laboratory schedules
* Good IT skills
All candidates should be able to work legally in the UK full time, it will not be possible to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
