Overview
Technical Optimiser - Clean Water Field Operations West at Yorkshire Water, based in the Yorkshire region. Base location: Chellow Heights, covering the Bradford & Craven area (West). Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
The organisation provides essential water and wastewater services to the Yorkshire region. The Technical Optimiser will join the Field Operations team to drive improvements in performance, support field teams, coach colleagues, and ensure safe, efficient delivery of network maintenance and operational work.
Responsibilities
* Organise and coordinate resources to deliver complex jobs (Field, leakage, Service Partners, ER, etc.), including proactive network operation and maintenance activity.
* Complete operational risk assessments and supervise network intervention; respond quickly to network failures to minimise impact on key performance targets (e.g., Water Supply Interruptions and Water Quality).
* Ensure high standards of health and safety for water network operations; challenge colleagues, partners and organisations where H&S is compromised.
* Coach and train team members to deliver excellent performance and align individual and team performance with the company’s strategic objectives and performance commitments related to Network Services.
* Understand the financial implications of promoting Repair and Maintenance work on the Water Services Agreement; balance risk and cost and work with R&M partners to support efficient delivery and reduce cost of failure.
* Deliver consistent, excellent face-to-face customer service; own customer problems (including difficult ones) to resolution, with first-visit resolution where possible and follow-on work where needed.
* Understand Retail competition, the Water Act, and compliance with Market Codes related to Retail Competition.
* Operate and optimise the distribution network to ensure a continuous flow of supplies, assessing risk in terms of Supply/Demand, Service and Supply Interruptions to deliver the best outcome for customers and the business.
* Participation in a regional standby rota will be required once trained.
What Skills & Qualifications You Will Need
* In-depth technical knowledge of the network and complex jobs such as trunk mains repairs requiring systems changes.
* Advanced hydraulics training.
* Strong coaching skills to develop and mentor junior team members.
* Understanding of how the role fits within the business plan and how to deliver the required outputs.
* Experience delivering against challenging upper quartile targets and performance commitments.
* Ability to build and maintain effective internal and external relationships; acts as a role model.
* Positive approach to handling change, including technology, process, behavioural and organisational change.
* Excellent customer service skills, both internally and externally.
You Will Also Benefit From Having
* Coaching skills; attendance at relevant courses is desirable.
* Experience in a commercially orientated and/or regulated environment.
* Experience in the water or wastewater sectors or related utility/manufacturing sectors.
* Technical understanding of water network and assets.
* HNC in engineering or related qualification.
* Project Management experience.
* Knowledge of Water Regulations and Plumbing.
