Sheffield Forgemasters Engineering Ltd are looking for an Apprentice control and electrical engineerto complete a Level 3 Mechatronics Maintenance Technician apprenticeshipThe purpose of this role willbe to install, maintain and improve all electrical and control systems throughout the site.
Role & responsibilities
The candidate will be required to ensure that all site wide equipment and machinery is operational. They will have involvement in the successful delivery of key electrical andcontrol projects around the site. They will be required to undertake bothreactive and preventative maintenance to a wide range ofcombustion/instrumentation/control systems in a modern steel-production facility.
This will include working independently on faults and developingand implementing solutions as well as monitoring performance,predicting of failures and implementing improvements to increasesafety, production output and plant reliability.
* Maintaining electrical and control systems on site
* Design, build and install control panels that will integrate intonew and existing plant and equipment
* Working on complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems acrosssite
* Calibration of instrumentation
* PLC Programming control and automation principles/SCADA System, Siemens, Opto22, Eurotherm
* Ability to read, diagnose and understand any control electricaldrawings and documentation to complete fault findingdiagnosis
* Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
* Ability to carry out electrical testing and networking
* Understanding of panel building and using hand tools (drill,saw, jigsaw etc)
* Complete cable installation including conduit, glanding,termination and tray work
* Capable of using calibration equipment, use of database,documentation and relevant works operating procedure
* To adhere to Health and Safety rules and regulations

Things to consider:
During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements
You will need both of the following:
* GCSE English language C or 4 or above
* GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
