Contract type: Permanent. Working pattern: Part-time, term‑time (various working patterns considered). Hours of work: 8:00‑4:30 pm. 24 hours per week = Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. 32 hours per week = Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (potentially increasing to Tuesdays as well).
About the role
Education Health and Wellbeing CIC are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Outdoor Instructor to join The Peak Adventure programme. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about the outdoors, experiential learning, and helping others build confidence, resilience and self‑esteem through adventure‑based activities. You will assist, lead and facilitate a range of engaging sessions including team building, hiking, outdoor cooking, and forest school activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, assist and lead the delivery of safe, engaging, and inclusive outdoor sessions for secondary aged groups of varying abilities.
* Lead team building activities that promote communication, problem‑solving and collaboration.
* Guide hiking trips, ensuring participant safety and enjoyment while sharing knowledge of the natural environment.
* Facilitate outdoor cooking sessions, teaching practical skills and promoting teamwork.
* Lead forest school activities that encourage exploration, creativity and connection with nature.
* Assist in writing risk assessments and adhere to all health and safety procedures.
* Maintain equipment and ensure all resources are used safely and responsibly.
* Provide a supportive and positive learning environment for all participants.
* Adapt sessions based on group needs, weather conditions and ability levels.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
* Passion for outdoor education and adventure‑based learning.
* Experience working with groups (children, young people or adults) in an outdoor setting.
* Willingness to work outside all year in all weathers.
* Strong communication and leadership skills.
* Ability to manage groups safely in dynamic outdoor environments.
* First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
* DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain).
* Flexible and proactive attitude.
* Excellent time management.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
* Relevant qualifications such as mountain/hill/lowland leader, water sports, fishing, JM/DofE award.
* Forest School qualification (level 2 or 3).
* Experience delivering team building or outdoor education programmes.
* Safeguarding training.
* Experience working with young people with identified SEND.
