Overview

Senior ICT Technician based at Eggbuckland Community College on the outskirts of Plymouth. Full-time onsite role (37 hours per week, 52 weeks).

You’ll need solid IT support skills, effective communication, and strong task management/prioritisation abilities. You will be responsible for resolving day-to-day IT issues, tasking, and supporting the junior technician.

The school is largely on-premises with Active Directory and a Microsoft 365 tenant. Networking includes Aruba, and Hyper-V runs on Dell hardware. We also use Smoothwall and Barracuda, among other industry-standard tools. This role is part of the Westcountry Schools Trust, with a Teams area for IT staff across all trust schools for support.

The school's tenant will migrate to the Trust’s overarching tenant, providing opportunities to build skills in Microsoft 365 administration and InTune.

Reporting line: you will report to the appropriate supervisor, who will ensure you have the support needed to succeed.


Responsibilities

* Resolve day-to-day IT issues and provide timely IT support onsite, ensuring minimal disruption to school activities.
* Manage tasks and prioritise work effectively; support and guide junior technician as needed.
* Assist with maintenance and administration of on-premises infrastructure (AD, Windows servers) and cloud services (M365).
* Support network equipment and security tooling (Aruba, Smoothwall, Barracuda) as part of daily operations.
* Collaborate with IT staff across the Trust via the Teams area to share knowledge and best practices.
* Prepare for and participate in the migration of the school’s tenant into the Trust’s overarching tenant, contributing to 365 admin enhancements.


Qualifications and Skills

* Solid IT support skills with ability to communicate clearly with staff and users.
* Effective task management and prioritisation abilities.
* Experience with Active Directory and Microsoft 365 administration is desirable; familiarity with InTune is a plus.
* Experience with on-premises infrastructure, virtualization (Hyper-V), and network/security tooling (e.g., Aruba, Smoothwall, Barracuda) is preferred.
