Associate Practitioner in Biomedical Sciences
We are looking for a Band 4 Biomedical Scientist (BMS) who will work within the Sexual Health and HIV service at Embrace Wolverhampton.
Responsibilities
* Perform Gram stain and microscopy on the slides brought into the laboratory by the clinical staff, including wet preparations while the patient waits.
* Record the results of the microscopy in the workbook, the patient’s test/appointment form, and on the Lillie computer system.
* Record if Gram negative diplococci are seen on the slide, on the corresponding request form.
* Check that the details on the form match those on the sample before processing or sending to the Microbiology laboratory. Resolve any problems before sending.
* On occasion, samples may need to be taken by the BMS to the Microbiology laboratory.
* Perform quality control testing when required.
* Ordering consumables as required.
Qualifications
* GCSE Mathematics and English or equivalent and a basic science based qualification
* IBMS Certificate of competence / Foundation degree in Biomedical science
* Driving License
* Substantial NHS Cellular Pathology laboratory experience in routine laboratory techniques
Experience
* Understanding of Clinical governance
