Role Overview
As a Network Maintenance Modern Apprentice in Inverness, you’ll support the Water Response team from December 2025. You’ll help keep Scotland’s water flowing safely and reliably by working on repairs, maintenance and installations across the network.
Responsibilities
* Identify and repair faults in the water network, including burst pipes, faulty valves and damaged stop taps.
* Carry out planned maintenance on water mains and stop taps.
* Support lead pipe replacements and assist developers with meter repairs, new connections and installations.
* Work safely around live water supplies in streets, public areas and homes.
* Use specialist tools, vehicles and equipment to carry out repairs.
* Carry out inspections and keep accurate records of work completed.
* Safely conduct risk assessments, follow health and safety procedures and report on work.
* Keep disruption to a minimum and maintain high service standards.
Training & Development
Over three years you’ll receive dedicated training to become a fully qualified Network Maintenance Operator. The programme includes:
* Hands‑on learning and on‑the‑job training with a day‑to‑day line manager and personal assessor.
* Progressive skill development in fault identification, maintenance, installation and safety.
* National industry qualification: Water Industry SVQ at SCQF Level 6.
* Option from year 2 to undertake an HNC in Water Operations.
* Support through training and assessment by the in‑house Skills Academy.

Qualifications & Requirements
* Must be at least 17 years old by 1 December 2025.
* Responsible attitude to learning and work; trustworthy and reliable.
* Preferably five National 4 or 5s (or equivalent) – English, Maths and Science particularly helpful.
* A driving licence is useful; we offer support to obtain a licence during the first year.
