Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Geo‑environmental Engineer based in Derby, you will support the design, procurement, supervision and delivery of geotechnical and geo‑environmental investigations across development, infrastructure, health, education and defence sectors, contributing to high‑quality site characterisation, data collection and reporting to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard.
Your Impact in this position
You will play an important role in producing desk studies, managing site investigations and delivering clear, technically sound factual and interpretative reports that directly inform risk assessments, foundation design and environmental management strategies, enabling clients to progress projects with confidence.
Core Capabilities
* Technical Delivery – Undertake and support ground investigations, including logging, sampling and monitoring of groundwater and ground gas, ensuring accuracy and adherence to current standards and best practice.
* Project Coordination – Assist in planning, scoping and supervising site works, coordinating effectively with contractors and laboratories to maintain programmes and quality.
* Data & Reporting – Produce clear, concise and technically robust reports, demonstrating strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
* Health, Safety & Environment – Apply sound health, safety and environmental practices in both site and office activities, contributing to a safe working culture.
* Collaboration & Communication – Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, communicating effectively with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Hold a degree in geology, engineering geology or environmental science with practical experience in ground investigation and site‑based work. Be confident in report writing, IT systems and technical communication, with a solid understanding of health, safety and environmental practices. A full UK driving licence is required, willingness to travel and work on site for a significant portion of time, including occasional overnight stays. Eligibility for Security Clearance is essential. Additional certifications such as CSCS, CAT and Genny, SSSTS or SMSTS, First Aid or Water Hygiene are advantageous.
Working Environment
This role is based in Derby with regular travel to sites across the UK. The position is predominantly site‑focused, typically involving several days per week on site depending on project requirements. When not on site, hybrid working is supported with flexibility in working patterns. Occasional overnight stays may be required as part of project delivery.
