School Overview

This Primary and Nursery School in Stoneygate is known for its nurturing, inclusive, and child-focused environment. Serving a diverse Leicester community, the school prioritises emotional wellbeing, social development, and early intervention alongside academic progress.

The leadership team understands that early behavioural challenges can significantly affect learning and development if not addressed. The school provides strong pastoral support, SEND provision, and behaviour mentoring to support pupils with SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD, attachment difficulties, or other emotional and social challenges.

With increasing demand for targeted behavioural support across Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1, the school is seeking a skilled Behaviour Mentor to join its pastoral team.

Role Purpose

The Behaviour Mentor will work with pupils experiencing difficulties with behaviour, emotional regulation, or social interaction. The role involves providing structured support in classrooms, small group sessions, and during unstructured periods such as playtime and lunchtimes.

The postholder will collaborate closely with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and parents to implement consistent behaviour strategies across the school and ensure children can access learning in a safe and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver 1:1 behavioural and emotional support to pupils in Nursery, Reception, and KS1

* Lead small group interventions targeting social skills, self-regulation, and emotional literacy

* Support pupils during classroom activities, transitions, and unstructured periods

* Assist pupils in managing behaviour and emotions during playtimes and lunchtimes

* Implement and monitor individual behaviour support plans, tracking outcomes

* Employ restorative, play-based, and trauma-informed strategies

* Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation for pupils

* Observe, assess, and record pupil progress and outcomes

* Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, EYFS staff, and pastoral teams

* Build strong professional relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies

* Contribute to planning, review meetings, and multi-agency support discussions

* Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies consistently

* Promote a culture of inclusion, empathy, and mutual respect

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient, with a strong commitment to supporting young children. You will understand that challenging behaviour is often a form of communication and respond with consistency, empathy, and structured interventions.

You should demonstrate:

* Experience in Primary, Nursery, or EYFS settings

* Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, ADHD, ASD, and attachment-informed practice

* Confidence implementing behaviour interventions and monitoring outcomes

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills

* Reflective practice and proactive problem-solving

* Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of pupils and staff

Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, or youth work are desirable.

Training and Professional Development

The school provides structured induction, supervision, and access to CPD in behaviour management, SEMH, SEND, and early intervention. Behaviour Mentors are supported to progress into teaching, SEN, or pastoral leadership roles.

* Inclusive, collaborative, and supportive working environment

* Experienced leadership and pastoral teams

* Specialist CPD and training opportunities

* A highly rewarding role with measurable impact on pupils’ lives
