Join the Jacobs Graduate Development Programme (GDP) and have a meaningful, positive impact on our environments, communities, and societies worldwide. As a Jacobs Graduate you will be part of a larger network of talent who are Challenging Today and Reinventing Tomorrow. What we do at Jacobs Everything we do in our Energy, Security and Technology (ES&T) business – whether Aerospace, Defense, Intelligence, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Nuclear, Automotive, or Telecommunications – is more than just a project. It’s our challenge as human beings, too. What will you get? Our Graduate Development Programme is a structured two-year scheme where we provide the framework, mentoring and experiences to help you maximise your skills and ambitions. On joining our scheme in September 2024, as a Graduate Civils/Structural Engineering in ourDecommissioning & Regeneration Solutions business, you’ll rapidly gain knowledge of how our company works and the impact that you can have to help us move towards a more connected and sustainable world. About the opportunities At Jacobs, our Decommissioning & Regeneration Solutions business brings decades of experience to decommissioning and clean-up, drawn from our work at the world’s most challenging nuclear sites. Safety case management, environmental and radiological consultancy, and health physics support go hand in hand with our core engineering capabilities, ensuring an unrelenting safety ethos. We apply strategies to minimize waste volumes requiring final disposal and we implement innovative decommissioning and decontamination processes for U.K. clients including Sellafield Ltd., Magnox Ltd and Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd. As a graduate Civil/Structural Engineer you will join a highly skilled team delivering engineering solutions to meet the requirements of our Nuclear Power, Decommissioning and Defence clients. Each of our projects are unique and engineered to meet exacting standards of nuclear safety and integrity. This often requires designing structures to withstand extreme events including earthquakes, fire, explosion and impact. We cannot always rely on conventional codes and standards, and have to look deeper into structural behaviour, considering for example ultimate failure mechanisms, ductility, dynamic response and soil structure interaction. We work things out as a team, considering first principles, researching alternative methodologies, using complex numerical analysis, undertaking rigorous validation and verification, challenging assumptions, thinking outside the box, and constantly learning. Our industry and our culture demand we deliver to the highest standards of quality and technical excellence. Everything we do has to be fully evidenced and justified, and is often subject to thorough independent review, and scrutiny by the defence and nuclear safety Regulators. As a result, this is one of the most varied and challenging roles you can take on as a civil or structural engineer. Working through the whole project lifecycle, you will have the opportunity to turn your theoretical knowledge into practical solutions for our clients, delivering on critical projects in Nuclear Power, Defence, Decommissioning, as well as for industry leading new technologies supporting the drive towards net zero. We have opportunities available in Stockton, Westlakes (Cumbria) or Warrington offices.
