Field Service Engineer Realistic earnings ~£52,500 (up to £42,500 basic + ~£10,000 overnight allowance) | No weekends, no call-outs
A field engineering role with no weekend work, no on-call and no emergency call-outs — ever. Every job is planned maintenance, so your week is known in advance and your earnings are predictable. If you like solving real problems on serious electrical infrastructure and you're happy on the road midweek, this is a rare one.
What's in it for you:
Realistic total earnings around £52,500 — up to £42,500 basic plus a reliable ~£10,000 a year in overnight allowance (£70 for every day you're not home by 7pm)
Zero out-of-hours: no weekends, no call-outs, no reactive emergencies — all planned
Every weekend at home, guaranteed
Variety and autonomy: diagnostic problem-solving on high-voltage substation infrastructure across the UK
Real progression in a small, growing engineering business that designs and builds its own monitoring technology
Fully equipped company van; travel and accommodation covered
The role: You'll deliver planned condition-monitoring maintenance on HV substation infrastructure for the UK's transmission network owners and major energy operators. It's hands-on, diagnostic work — installing and servicing both in-house-built and third-party monitoring kit, working out why something's happening rather than ticking a checklist. You'll travel extensively, typically a few nights away each week, always Monday to Friday, with real independence across sites the length of the country.
What you'll need:
An electrical or electrical/mechanical background — HV or substation experience is a strong plus, but a capable diagnostic engineer will be considered
A problem-solver's mindset: you want to find the cause, not just confirm pass or fail
Comfortable with regular weeknight travel and overnight stays (never weekends)
Full UK driving licence
Whether you've worked as a field service engineer, test and commissioning engineer, maintenance engineer or HV technician, if you like fixing complex problems on real infrastructure, let's talk.
Our client welcomes applications from all backgrounds and actively promotes equality and inclusion across its workforce.
