Overview
The Regulatory Department is one of the largest in the country and is recognised by clients and other lawyers as being one of the best. We advise clients across all sectors including health, public sector, corporations and individuals. This is predominantly an advocacy based role and regular attendance at court hearings in Sussex is required but other courts also require us to attend hearings. You must be willing and able to travel to these courts for 9.30am attendance. We are currently recruiting for solicitor advocates or barristers to join our National Police team. In particular, we are looking for lawyers to advise, prepare and present civil protective orders in the Magistrates’ Court including Domestic Violence Protection Orders, Stalking Protection Orders, Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, Sexual Risk Orders, Anti-Social Behaviour injunctions and closure orders. This is predominantly an advocacy role and regular attendance at court is required.
Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of around 100 civil protective orders in a very busy team, with high volume, quick turnaround applications
* Open files and draft all paperwork for the civil order applications, be responsible for your own management information data input completion, administration and diary keeping
* Managing and taking responsibility for shared inboxes
* Taking calls regularly to provide ad hoc advice and/or taking calls for team members on their court days
* Present cases in the Magistrates' courts/Crown Court if you have Higher Rights on a daily basis in person travelling to our designated courts for hearings
* Interacting with client personnel and Respondents, defence solicitors, police officers and counsel
* Organise Case Manager diary and action lists
* Draft various documents
* Achieve set financial and chargeable targets and use a time recording application to record all work done on individual files
