As the Operations Manager, you will lead, manage, and be responsible for the performance of the Refuse & Recycling Department in Mid Suffolk/Babergh Environmental Services within a demanding commercial environment, overseeing approximately 100 employees.
Reporting to the Contract Manager, you will be the lead on operational activities in managing the Refuse & Recycling department and serve as the direct line manager to the Supervisors.
Your main responsibilities include:
1. Implementing and managing a robust health & safety culture in full compliance with corporate policies, procedures, systems, and relevant legislation, ensuring data compilation and a commitment to improving safety and welfare.
2. Developing and utilizing performance measurement processes, including KPIs, to drive operational improvements.
3. Conducting regular team and departmental meetings, monitoring progress, and ensuring business targets are met, with accurate and timely reporting to line management.
4. Building and maintaining relationships with customers, potential clients, partners, and stakeholders, including leading client meetings and delivering presentations and analytics.
5. Developing, implementing, and managing strategic and annual plans to meet contractual and business targets, including growth in commercial waste.
6. Ensuring the responsible areas are structured, reviewed, and operated efficiently, managing people, vehicles, and operations.
Ideally, you will have experience as an Operations Manager or similar within the waste sector or managing multiple departments with blue-collar staff in a multi-disciplined environment.
Essential qualifications and licenses include a valid driving license (HGV desirable), CPC license, and COTC qualification, with the expectation to obtain necessary licenses within 18 months if successful.
Financial acumen in budget management, forecasting, and profit & loss is required. Experience in managing direct and indirect reports is also essential.
