Specialist Pharmacist Technician CCA

We are seeking a proactive and dedicated Critical Care Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team.

In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Lead Critical Care Pharmacists to deliver high quality, patient centred care. You will support safe and efficient medication management for critically ill patients and play an essential part in the ongoing expansion of our Critical Care pharmacy service.

You will take on leadership responsibilities through line management of junior staff, contribute to clinical audits, and actively participate in service development initiatives. Your expertise will also help shape training and education for colleagues, while your collaboration with multidisciplinary teams will drive improvements in pharmacy workflows and patient outcomes.

The ideal candidate will bring strong communication skills, a passion for patient care, and the confidence to thrive in a fast paced, high acuity environment.


Main duties of the job

* Medicines management such as updating stock lists, fridge temperature monitoring (including resolving temperature excursions), controlled drug and general stock management, new product risk assessments and drug shortages
* Assisting with clinical audits and research to drive innovation
* Attending or deputising for the lead pharmacist(s) in Critical Care/pharmacy meetings when necessary
* Deliver training and education to nurses around medicines management, including pharmacy workflow processes e.g. prescription tracking system
* Participate in dispensary duties such as dispensing and accuracy checking during weekday, late night and weekend services
* Line management responsibilities, including appraisal, and support for ongoing development
* Support with the development of a step-down service, helping to ensure medicines safety and optimisation on transfer from critical care to the wards
* Contributing to the investigation of, and handling medicines-related incidents using the DATIX system
* Design, implement and lead a medicines safety focus group on critical care; involving nursing colleagues to analyse medicines incidents, identify trends, prioritise areas for staff education to implement best practice
* Clinical MDT attendance and participation e.g. facilitating drug supply
* Collect, monitor and report on KPI including analysis of drug expenditure reports to support cost-effective medicines management

Qualifications

* Knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures equivalent to degree level acquired through training and experience.
* NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services, BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
* Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council


Experience

* Specialist knowledge of hospital pharmacy procedures and workflows
* Experience of leading a team
* Experience of embedding new ways or working within teams
* Experiences of training and supervising staff
