We deliver design and resource solutions to our wide range of clients ensuring safe and successful delivery.
We have a new vacancy for an Associate Director level Commercial Manager to lead the Design Joint Venture Commercial Team on a new HS2 Project.
You will lead and be responsible for all commercial aspects of the business, reporting directly to the Commercial Director. You will manage commercial risk and communicate this across stakeholders, ensuring governance and reporting processes are in place to mitigate it.
This role involves working with JV partners to align and manage a commercial and cost management team, responsible for upstream and downstream deliverables, and client and stakeholder interface.
Primary location: 3 - 4 days in London offices, with occasional travel to Birmingham.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Build, lead, and develop the commercial and cost management team into a high-performing unit.
2. Develop and embed strategic principles for proactive management of design functions and deliverables.
3. Design and implement contract management processes, tools, and products to support informed, data-driven decisions.
4. Support work-winning teams in reviewing risks and contractual obligations.
5. Prepare and develop commercial solutions to support business growth.
6. Identify and manage all commercial risks on contracts.
7. Ensure contract compliance and performance.
8. Negotiate contracts and manage non-standard contractual issues.
9. Collaborate with senior management to exceed commercial targets.
10. Oversee the development of management information and accurate forecasting.
11. Review and ensure personnel competencies within the department.
12. Manage workforce creation and development.
13. Engage with Notify system for Health and Safety, and ensure team awareness and compliance.
14. Understand and communicate information security policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
* Degree in construction commercial management or equivalent.
* Professional membership (RICS, CIOB, or equivalent).
* Knowledge of NEC contracts, especially PSC.
* Understanding of construction law and standard contracts.
* Experience in design consultancy and JV arrangements.
* Experience as a Senior Commercial Manager, with client management skills.
* Experience on large UK rail projects.
* Knowledge of engineering and client standards.
* Experience with Tier 1 consultancies or contractors preferred.
* Financial management skills.
* Proficiency with MS Office, including Excel, Project, Word.
* Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
* Ability to motivate and train team members.
* Claims and dispute resolution experience, with good UK law knowledge.
