An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly creative and organised senior designer to join the Nic +Lou team on a fixed-term contract for 10 months. Nic + Lou is an independent design studio based in London. We are a team of ambitious creatives who produce beautiful, well considered and imaginative design solutions for a range of publishing houses and organisations. We work very closely with all of our clients to consistently create visually exciting, innovative and impactful design ideas.
Who You Are
An ambitious creative book designer with at
least 3 years
publishing design experience working with colour non fiction and illustrated books. You will have real creative flair, an eye for detail and a demonstrable passion for designing outstanding books. An awareness of the current book market and wider cultural trends will be vital. You'll need an impressive portfolio that demonstrates all your design talents, have a love for problem solving, possess great communication skills.
Who You Will Be Doing
The role will involve creating covers and interiors for non-fiction and illustrated titles across a broad range of genres including cookery, lifestyle, wellness and childrens. You will be adept at working on concepts through to final layouts and preparing files for print. Experience of briefing and working closely with photographers and illustrators is important as is an in-depth knowledge of setting colour files up for print. You will need to manage a very busy workload, work well with our in-house team, as well as liaising with clients. Design expertise is ESSENTIAL so this is not a role for a visualiser or illustrator without demonstrable design experience. Strong Adobe Creative Suite skills and an established knowledge of print and digital reproduction know-how is also essential.
Qualifications
* Experience in Graphic Design, Book Design, and Creative Direction with an impressive portfolio
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
* Strong understanding of typography, color theory, and layout design
* Excellent communication and presentation skills
* Knowledge of current design trends and be a string conceptual thinker
* Works well under pressure and can manage multiple projects
* lllustration skills desirable
