The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2025/2026 and will be implemented in August 2025 with arrears backdated to 1st April 2025 where applicable.

Registered Nurse - HMP Parc, Bridgend

As an NHS employee the role provides a comprehensive physical health service as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team to prisoners with physical health needs within the prison environment.

As Part of a Team the role delivers a comprehensive Primary Health Service in partnership with G4S, GP’s, Secondary Care Mental Health, and Third Sector parties. All key stakeholders in the care provision as part of a multidisciplinary team within the prison setting.

This role involves undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments, performing diagnostic tests, whilst providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to meet prisoner health and social care needs.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly across the service, providing responsive, evidence-based interventions, working alongside physical and mental health clinical teams as well as Prison Staff.

The postholder will be part of a NHS team that provides primary care within a prison, preventing transfer to outside hospitals. They will demonstrate knowledge, skills and understanding of health issues and treatment options and have a keen interest in developing knowledge and skills across the integrated services.


Main duties of the job

• Promote the health and well-being of patients/clients and maintain a safe, caring, and therapeutic environment.

• Ensure nursing practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct which incorporates and respects differences in respect of gender, sexuality ethnicity, religion culture and disability.

• At all times be aware of and practice within the NMC Code of Conduct.

• Responsibility for administering medication in accordance with RCN guidance.

• To respond to medical emergencies promptly and to ensure that emergency equipment is conveyed to the scene.

• Informing and advising the Nurse Manager/Deputy of actual or potential problems with regard to patients, staff, visitors, etc, and where necessary, contribute to the appropriate action in resolving such problems on an ongoing basis.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency ’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

The position offers support in the delivery of a comprehensive nursing service including chronic disease management, public health nursing and first contact nursing in prison premises and in cell care to coordinate the care needs of patients.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, providing nurse leadership as required.

The post holder will have the freedom to act within established parameters, where work is managed rather than supervised.

The post holder is required to act independently within Health Board and professional guidelines, referring to supervisory management and support when required.

* Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are Desirable for this Role.
